Quiet in Ramadi, Baghdad's a Mess

No news from Ramadi today.

I usually don't post on events outside of Ramadi, but today I am compelled to write something about the 34+ children that died in the Baghdad car bombing. I am deeply saddened and appalled by these events. No people in any country wants to be occupied, but I do not see any religion, code of ethics or set of moral values that justifies the killing of innocent children. I am reminded of great leaders such as Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela all who advocate non-violent methods of protest. Where is this person in the Muslim world? Why do these people insist on killing their own? My heart goes out to the families of these children who lives were needlessly ended.

"As soon as we lose the moral basis, we cease to be religious. There is no such thing as religion over-riding morality. Man, for instance, cannot be untruthful, cruel or incontinent and claim to have God on his side." --Mahatma Gandhi

  • Dear Rory,

We love and miss you deeply! Last two days in San Diego has been a little grey, but it's actually a nice change. Things are cooling down here--I hope they are there as well. I bet you guy will be glad for a break from that heat! The news on Iraq seems to get worse each day, but I am thankful that it doesn't seem as bad where you are at. Keep your head down and stay safe. Lots of big virtual hugs coming your way!

  • hi everyone, my name's julie brooke; i'm from pittsburgh. simran tracked me down on the 2id support group website; my husband, robert brooke, is in A 2/17 FA with rory. i've heard about him a few times (i think i even talked to him on the phone once) and thought it was pretty cool that simran found me! rob and rory also graduated at fort sill together; same battery, different platoons. anyway, i just wanted to say hi! take care, everyone - especially rory, and tell rob to be careful, too (not like he doesn't hear it enough from me).
